Excursion Overview

White Pass Train & Downhill Bike Adventure: Ride the Rails, Coast to the Sea

High in Alaska’s coastal mountains, this White Pass Train and bike adventure unfolds like a living chapter of Gold Rush history. The journey begins aboard the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, where guests ride vintage railcars through dramatic mountain scenery, sheer cliffs, and deep river valleys on a 90-minute climb into British Columbia. After arriving in Fraser, local guides escort the group along the legendary Klondike Highway to the White Pass summit, setting the stage for a one-of-a-kind descent through one of Southeast Alaska’s most breathtaking corridors.

From the summit, the experience transforms into a scenic 15-mile bike ride back toward Skagway, following a mostly downhill route carved between glaciers, waterfalls, and towering peaks. Riders cruise at a comfortable pace with plenty of stops for photos, stories, and views of the historic railroad winding through the landscape below. Along the way, guests even pedal across the international border and re-enter the United States by bike, adding a memorable twist to the journey.

With small group sizes, expert guides, and nonstop scenery, this Skagway train and bike tour delivers an immersive, story-driven exploration of the White Pass and Klondike Highway that blends adventure, history, and unforgettable views.

This tour is typically available from May through September. Our excursions were designed for cruise ship passengers but are available to everyone.

This has been the highlight of all of the excursions we have been. My wife kept raving about that she is now an international biker. We were lucky it was a gorgeous day so much that we could see the top of the mountains.

The mountain pass was so beautiful. The train ride was great. The tour Guides on the train and throughout the tour were very helpful, informative, and pleasant. We had rain and we appreciated the rain proof outer clothing provided. The bike ride was really fun but excrutiatingly slow. I know this is a group activity but a suggestion would be to have some sort of system in place that would allow people who ride faster to be able to And the slower people be allowed to go at their pace.
